10% Neutral Buffered Formalin
Q: Does Richard-Allan Scientific 10% Neutral Buffered Formalin contain methanol and, if so, at what percentage? A: Yes. Methanol is added to prevent formaldehyde polymerization to paraformaldehyde. There is less than 1% of methanol v/v.
Cal-Rite Q: Does Cal-Rite have to be changed daily? A: For faster results, Cal-Rite should be changed daily.
Q: Is Cal-Rite fast acting? A: Cal-Rite is ideal for diagnostic specimens that require rapid processing including bone marrow biopsies (3-4 hours). Larger specimens will require a longer decalcification time.
Decalcifying Solution Q: Is Decal Solution fast acting? A: Decal Solution is hydrochloric acid based and fast acting with bone marrow biopsies taking less than two hours and routine surgical specimens decalcifying in approximately 2-4 hours.
Q: How often does Decal Solution need to be changed for best results? A: Decal Solution should be changed after the first two hours of decalcification.
Pen-Fix Q: Can tissue specimens be stored in Pen-Fix? A: No. Pen-Fix is not recommended for the storage of tissue because of potential over-dehydration, especially in smaller specimens.
Q: Can Pen-Fix be used with immunoperoxidase techniques? A: Yes. Historically there have been no problems with the masking of antigen sites.
